Published January 6, 2008

Stevens showed no mercy on the Rams varsity basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons, playing in their second year at the varsity level, took a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back as they crushed the Rams, 106-65, at the O’Connor Gymnasium in Helotes.

Stevens jumped out to a 24-12 by the end of the first and led 55-26 by halftime.

Things didn’t get any easier for the Rams in the third quarter as the Falcons pushed their lead to 79-42 before scoring 27 in the final quarter for the 41-point win.

Austin Sutton led Del Rio with 25 points. Jamal McKinney had 17 points, Jeremy Washington had 13 points, Adrian Torres had four points, and Josh Washington and Ben Casarez had three points each.

Six Falcons scored in double digits, led by Aaron Plunkett’s 23 and Julian Stallworth’s 15.

Del Rio will look to bounce back Tuesday as the Rams host the O’Connor Panthers at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
