Girls' cross-country finishes12th at state

Del Rio’s cross-country program ended its season with another trip to the State-5A Meet Saturday.
The varsity girls’ team finished 12th out of 12 teams while senior Justin Garcia finished 42nd overall.
Garcia, making his third consecutive trip to the state meet but his first as a solo runner, completed the 3-mile course at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock in a time of 16:25.8.
While the time was about two seconds slower than his time last year, his 42nd place finish was his personal best at the meet.
Craig Lutz of Lewisville Marcus was the individual champion, crossing the finish line in 14:45.2.
Conroe-The Woodlands was the team champion, winning its fourth consecutive state title in the Boys-5A Division.
Del Rio’s varsity girls’ team, making its first trip to the state meet in the program’s history, finished 12th out of 12 teams with a total of 293 points.
Humble Kingwood won the girls’ team title with 55 points. Conroe-The Woodlands was second with 85 points while Southlake Carroll was third with 102 points.
Sophomore Candida Chairez was Del Rio’s top finisher as she completed the two-mile course in 52nd place in a time of 12:13.7.
Junior Vanessa Galindo was 59th in 12:22.8, senior Eileen Vargas was 88th in 12:55.7, freshman Samantha Munderback was 97th in 13:11.6, senior Olivia Dominguez was 102nd in 13:29.9, and freshman Annie Garcia was 104th in 15:48.1.
Freshman Bianca Renteria was listed as not completing the course.
