Area softball teams place third at regionals

Two local softball teams recently placed third at their respective tournaments.
The Del Rio ASA/Babe Ruth 14-and-under girls softball team and the Del Rio ASA/Babe Ruth 16-and-under team from Brackettville each finished third over the weekend in Eagle Pass at the Southwest Regional tournament for each age group.
This is the first year teams from this organization have finished among the top three in the regional tournament.
The Del Rio ASA Fastpitch/Babe Ruth organization sent a total of four teams to Eagle Pass.
In addition to the two teams that finished third, the 12-and-under All-Star team finished fifth in its division while the Del Rio team in the 16-and-under division also finished fifth.
Brackettville’s team was known as Texas Terror. They defeated Hamburg, Ark., 7-6, in their first game but fell to eventual tournament champions Louisiana PAC.
Aside from Del Rio and Brackettville, teams from Hamburg, Ark. and Eagle Pass also took part in the16U tournament.
The Brackettville team was sponsored throughout the season by Timmy McDonald and Polly Pingenot, Sonny and Lanell Garcia, Villanueva Tire Shop, The Bank and Trust, Lynda Conrey, D & D Hardware, Wool and Mohair and SOE Beverage Barn.
Del Rio’s 14U team was known as the Lady Sluggers. They competed against teams from Eagle Pass, Cotulla, Terrebonne, La., and Magnolia, Ark. Del Rio’s roster included Myeshia Linvingston, Kristela Fernandez, Audrey Arreola, Clarissa Leon, Avianna Galvan, Clarissa Garza, Kaelyn Martinez, Kaitlin Bernal, Ashly Padilla, Rebekah Garcia, Sabrina Gomez and Victoria Garcia. The team was coached by Robbie Garza, Pablo Rodriguez and Ricky Gomez.
