Capacity crowd expected at Ram Stadium

Published October 28, 2009

The District 29-5A football title will be on the line at Walter Levermann Stadium Friday night when the Del Rio Rams host the San Antonio Southwest Dragons.

In anticipation of another capacity crowd, San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Athletic Director Dan Hurley said Tuesday that the district would keep the additional 400 seats added to the home side of the field.

Hurley also said that the visitors’ side would again not be opened for additional home seating.

Rams football fans are urged to buy their tickets early to avoid any delays or problems at the main entrance gate. Hurley said that if the stadium’s gates were closed for capacity concerns that all pre-sale ticket holders would be admitted.

“Fans should try and make plans to get to the game as soon as possible to avoid any problems,” Hurley said.

Friday night’s game will see the Rams take on the Dragons at 7:30.

Del Rio enters the game 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district while the Dragons are 7-0 on the season and also 5-0 in district.

If the winner of this game would hold the district lead with one game remaining for each. But because of the head-to-head tiebreaker, the winner of Friday’s game would essentially be district champions.

Southwest is the defending district champions and has won its last 23 district games beginning in District 27-5A in 2006.

The Rams have clinched a playoff berth for the second consecutive year and are seeking their first district title since the 1993-94 season.

Pre-sale tickets are currently on sale for Friday night’s game. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased today through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the school district’s athletic office located inside the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium at the high school.

Pre-sale tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students.

All tickets will be $6 at the gate.

Fans planning on attending Friday’s game are reminded to dress warm as the day’s high is expected to be around 67 degrees and the low is expected to be around 44 degrees.
