Convention bureau on council agenda

Published November 23, 2009

Tourism and the activities of the Del Rio Convention and Visitors Bureau top the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Del Rio City Council.

The meeting is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers at City Hall, 109 W. Broadway St.

Following the opening ceremonies of the meeting and the approval of minutes from the council's Nov. 10 meeting, Donna Langford, who heads the Del Rio Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), is set to give the council the 2008-2009 annual report on the CVB's activities and projects.

There are no ordinances on Tuesday's agenda, but the council will consider six resolutions.

Those resolutions include the confirmation of the appointment of an interim police chief.

Del Rio Police Department Chief Waylon Bullard's resignation from the chief's post becomes effective Dec. 4, before the council meets again.

The council will consider resolutions directing the airport manager to execute a letter of agreement between the airport and the U.S. Air Force's Headquarters Air Education and Training Command and a supplemental lease between the city and the Department of Homeland Security for a 5,000-square-foot parcel of land adjacent to other property leased by Customs and Border Protection at the international airport.

The council will consider a resolution authorizing advertisement for submission of proposals to manufacture and install a double-faced, internally-lighted freestanding pylon sign with 20mm full color electronic display at the civic center.

The final two resolutions to be considered by the city council deal with the city's Nutrition Services Division.

The first resolution directs the city manager to accept additional funding for the services of a registered dietitian for Fiscal Year 2009-2010, approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services for the city's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the amount of $8,000, and the second resolution directs the city manager to accept additional funding in the amount of $6,000 from the state for lactation services for the WIC Program.

Councilman Mike Wrob is on the council agenda to present a “pre-proposal for investigating the water resources of the western Edwards-Trinity Aquifer.”

Wrob is set to make his comments during the “Other Business” section of the council agenda.

The council has also scheduled an executive session meeting with its legal advisors.

On the posted agenda for the council's closed-door session are an attorney/client consultation “to discuss pending litigation in Cause No. 26294 filed in the 83rd Judicial District Court of Val Verde County, Texas and styled City of Del Rio vs. CH2M Hill Inc; Camp, Dresser & McKee Inc; and MW Builders of Texas Inc. vs. Infilco Degremont Inc., formerly doing business as Ondeo Degremont Inc.”

Also on the executive session agenda for Tuesday's meeting is an attorney/client consultation to discuss “legal matters pertaining to the city's Tierra del Lago Waterworks System.”
