New principal at DRMS
Published October 27, 2009
Sandra T. Hernandez was named principal at Del Rio Middle School by the public school board Monday night.
After about an hour behind closed doors, the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees returned with its decision.
Hernandez, currently principal at San Felipe Memorial Middle School, will replace Carlos Rios.
Rios, who has been at the campus four years, will end his tenure at this school Friday as he moves on to an administration position with the Laredo Independent School District.
Hernandez served as an assistant principal at the Del Rio Middle School before taking the lead post at the SFMMS sixth grade campus.
In an interview with the News-Herald April 27, 2008, Hernandez said the experience she gained at DRMS prepared her for the move to the sixth grade campus.
She will start at her new job next week.
Hernandez is a graduate of St. Mary's University with a Masters in Education from Sul Ross State University.
Coordination between Hernandez and Rios, who worked to streamline curriculum between the grades, resulted in gains on state standardized testing in recent years. Taking Hernandez's place at San Felipe Memorial Middle School is Pablo Ramos, presently an assistant principal at the school.
