DRMS cross-country teams sweep at ASU

Del Rio Middle School’s cross-country teams pulled off a clean sweep in San Angelo.

Competing in the San Angelo Invitational, the girls and boys teams, which featured runners from both the seventh and eighth grades, finished first in their respective divisions.

The girls’ team took first with a total of 38 points. Wall was second while Comstock finished third.

Five of Del Rio’s eighth grade runners finished among the top 20 overall. Leading the way was Estefany Gomez as she took third place overall in a time of 11:22 over the mile-and-a-half course.

She was joined in the top 10 by teammates Liz Romo, who was sixth in 11:43; Valentina Gallegos, who was seventh in 11:44; and Laura Kneeskern, who was eighth in 11:50. Also finishing in the top 20 was Alexis Gonzalez who was 20th in 12:24.

Sixteen other girls competed for Del Rio at the meet.

They included Blanca Vasquez (21st, 12:26), Kayla Reyes (32nd, 12:49), Miranda Bunch (33rd, 12:52), Destiny Burciaga (39th, 12:57), Lisset Enriquez (50th, 13:17), Melissa Escobedo (52nd, 13:19), Madison Rosenow (53rd, 13:20), Kimberly Alcala (62nd, 13:32), Aurora Hernandez (68th, 13:44), Ashley Alcala (81st, 14:05), Christa Hanson (86th, 14:14), Kyla Gladson (132nd, 14:58), Issela Garcia (133rd, 15:07), Victoria Ramirez (135th, 15:20), Gloriela Lopez (136th, 15:23) and Courtlyn Martinez (147th, 17:20).

Del Rio’s boys’ team also finished with 38 points and finished ahead of Wall and Lee, who was third. A total of 10 teams competed in the boys division.

Del Rio placed three runners among the top 10 and eight among the top 20 overall.

Top 10 finishers included Brian Linares, who was fourth in 10:21; Sergio Ramirez, who was sixth in 10:22; and Tony Martinez, who was ninth in 10:24.

Finishing in the top 20 were Jose Limon, who was 11th in 10:41; Jesus Aldrete, who was 13th in 10:46; Coalson Brown, who was 15th in 10:47; Paul Delgado, who was 16th in 10:48; and Abraham Soto, who was 19th in 11:07.

Del Rio had a total of 32 runners in the boys division.

In addition to the eight top 20 finishers, the other competitors for Del Rio included Juan Hernandez (21st, 11:10), Jesse Balderas (31st, 11:42), Robert Valdez (34th, 11:45), Cole Brust (35th, 11:46), Alex Avila (36th, 11:46), Ryne Reyes (43rd, 11:50), Darian Castro (45th, 11:52), Colby Hill (49th, 11:57), Ezquivel Meza (56th, 12:21), Jonathon Galindo (61st, 12:27), Ricky Hill (62nd, 12:30), Daniel Torres (66th, 12:35), Mikee Reyes (74th, 12:45), Chase Whitworth (75th, 12:46), Dustin Molinar (78th, 12:48), Peter Terlaje (82nd, 12:52), George Forester (92nd, 12:42), Ronaldo Robles (93rd, 13:15), Curtis Davis (95th, 13:18), Rolando Gonzalez (96th, 13:23), Hervey Gamez (97th, 13:26), Andy Gonzales (116th, 14:01), Mark Sanchez (135th, 15:11) and Aaron Santos (136th, 15:12).
