Brackett High is headed to the Class 2A State Cross-Country Meet.
Led by junior Abraham Morales, who won the Class 2A, Region IV Boys individual championship, the Tigers took third as a team and qualified for the state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The Tigers will compete on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 9:45 a.m.
Morales won Tuesday’s race in 17:05.16, 12 seconds faster than the next closest competitor.
Delfino Guerrero was next across the line for the Tigers, coming in 15th place overall in a time of 19:04.71.
Ricky Rangel was Brackett’s third finisher, winding up 28th in a time of 19:58.18.
Teammates Edgar Valdez and Anelka Gonzalez were 43rd and 44th in times of 21:07.25 and 20:16.26 respectively.
Hayes Bonner was 81st in 24:43.45, and Daniel Castañeda rounded out the team in 99th place at 34:14.75.
Brackett was third behind Port Aransas, whose top five runners all finished in the top 10; and Harper, which just edged Brackett by four points. Thrall was fourth with 116 points, and Premont was fifth with 150 points. Port Aransas and Harper will join Brackett at the state meet.
Brackett’s girls team also sent a trio of runners to the regional meet, but one of them will get to run at the state meet.
Reagan Hay was 18th overall in 13:42 but was one of the top 10 finishers not affiliated with a state-qualifying team, which qualified her for the state meet. Among those 10 finishers, Hay was ninth.
Hay will run at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
Hay’s teammates Anna Lewis finished 20th in 13:44.21, and Asia Williams was 21st in 13:47.59. They just missed the top 10 cutoff. Lewis was 11th and Williams was 12th among non-affiliated runners.
Shiner won the team title with 53 points followed by Mason with 60 points, San Saba with 65 points, Thrall with 138 points and Falls City with 147 points. Shiner, Mason and San Saba advanced to state.
Schulenberg’s Taylor Limbaugh was the top individual female runner, winning the regional title in a time of 12:29.91.
