A short-handed Del Rio Queens squad gave everything they had in a losing effort this weekend at San Angelo.

Down four players, including three starters out due to injuries, the Queens still managed to hold the San Angelo Central Lady Bobcats to just 34 points Friday night in San Angelo. However, Del Rio’s offensive output couldn’t keep pace, and the Queens were handed a 34-9 loss to drop to 2-5 on the season.

According to Queens head coach Chris Jost, Del Rio hit on just 4-of-27 shots from the field and missed all four of their free throw attempts.

Sydney Ballard led the Queens with five points and six rebounds. Nataly Gonzalez and Renee Salas each scored two points for Del Rio.

Due to the Thanksgiving holidays this week, the Queens will have early game times for their next two games. The Queens were scheduled to host San Angelo Lake View on Monday, and then travel to Eagle Pass to face C.C. Winn on Tuesday. Sub-varsity teams will play at noon on both days, and varsity teams were scheduled to play at 1:30 p.m.

Del Rio will not have another home game until Monday, Dec. 30, when they host Hondo at 1:30 p.m.
