With the start of fall sports at Del Rio High looming, local student-athletes and their parents should be aware of some of the goings on at the school.
Students don’t officially return to classes until Aug. 20, but students who are participating with the Mighty Ram Band have already begun practicing and student-athletes will begin practicing Aug. 6 with their respective teams.
Frenchey McCrea Jr., San Felipe Del Rio CISD athletic coordinator and head football coach, said he wanted to remind parents that their student-athletes should be registered through rankonesport.com prior to the start of their participation in any school athletics. This is for parents of all student-athletes in seventh grade through 12th grade.
The website is designed to keep parents and coaches up-to-date on any important and necessary information and helps athletic trainers in contact with coaches and keep them updated as to a player’s injury and helps trainers learn more about the medical needs of the student-athletes they’ll be overseeing for the school year.
According to the district’s official website, paper physical packets will no longer be accepted. Instead, the district will use the Pre-participation Physical Evaluation (PPE) and Health History Questionnaire forms which parents can obtain from a qualified medical professional. Any other forms needed can be found on rankonesport.com. Parents will need to follow the instructions provided on the “For Parent” tab, and the “Parent tutorial w/o an account” tab that follows, located at the top of the website.
The district’s athletic trainers will be present at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium Monday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help parents with any questions they have regarding this process.
Also beginning on Monday will be the Del Rio Cross-Country Summer Camp for incoming seventh and eighth graders.
The camp will run until Aug. 17 and there is no fee required but an up-to-date physical needs to be on file before a person can participate. The camp will be held at the Del Rio Middle School campus from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
According to Vicky Perez, head cross-country coach, the camp will consist of fundamentals, proper warm-up, dynamic stretches, form running, distance running, proper cool down, core and participants will take part in swimming drills.
Parents or runners with any questions should contact Perez at 830-834-0141.
Monday will also feature the start of the annual Del Rio Football Camp 1 Hundred.
Presented by the Del Rio football staff, registration for the camp will be held at 7 a.m. on Monday at the Carl P. Guys Memorial Gymnasium. Camp begins at 8 a.m. and continues to 11 a.m. The camp is designed for youth in second grade to ninth grade and registration fee is $30.
The camp will continue until Aug. 2.
