New head coach

Del Rio’s David Martinez, a 1996 graduate of Del Rio High School, was named the new head softball coach at Henderson State University in Arkansas. Martinez played baseball for the Del Rio Rams and was a former assistant coach at Del Rio High.

For Del Rio’s David Martinez, becoming a head coach wasn’t a matter of if, but when. And when the time came, he wanted to make sure he was ready.

That time has come as Martinez was named the head softball coach at Henderson State University, an NCAA Division II school, in May. He replaces Beth Jackson, who resigned from the position to serve as the new head softball coach at Gurdon High School. Martinez was the associate head coach when Jackson announced her resignation, but he had been with the school for the past three years.
