Ret. Msgt. Roland Leroy Van Hoozier, age 74, entered into rest on August 7, 2018 in Del Rio, Texas. Papa Ron as he was known by many, was born on September 13, 1943 in Eureka, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Leonard E. Bonham and mother Zoe L. Bonham, half- brother Darrell D. Van Hoozier, half-sister Ruth A. Van Hoozier, two step-sisters, Audrey Wilson and Marion E. Jackson; children Monika, Rebeka and Brian Van Hoozier.
Papa Ron and Waunetta grew up in Northwest Kansas and attended school in Palco, KS. After high school, Ron joined the United States Air Force. Upon returning from Spain, French Morroco, Germany, Ron and Waunetta were joined in Holy Matrimony. The start of a long and joyous adventure of both marriage and a career in the Air Force. They fell in love with Del Rio while assigned here in the mid 70s, bought a home for retirement that was just a few years away. Although those plans didn’t quite work out the way plans sometimes do, they managed to keep the plan alive and in 1982 he retired from the Air Force and returned to their retirement home.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Waunetta I. Van Hoozier. Son Kevin L. Van Hoozier Sr. (Maria G.), grandchildren Kassandra Jo Van Hoozier and Kevin Lee Van Hoozier, Jr. and great-grandson Cody L. Rodriguez.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 6:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
Military Honors will be provided by United States Air Force.
