David G. Hernandez
January 30, 1958 - January 4, 2019
Visual Artist, Musician, Educator, Son, Brother and beloved Uncle, David G. Hernandez passed away January 4th, 2019 here in Del Rio. He was born on January 30, 1958 in Del Rio.
As a son of the border, David was highly influenced by the flora, fauna, music, customs and bodies of water that surround
this unique cultural terrain. Upon high school graduation, he utilized the left side of his brain to earn a Biomedical
Engineer Degree at TSTI. This degree allowed years of travel all over the world working with and repairing IT computer
issues of offshore oil rigs. Visually, this experience awakened the right side of his brain which later influenced his decision to
pursue an Art Degree.
He bravely left a secure situation to attend Texas Christian University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art with an emphasis in Bronze Sculpting. He flourished in his new endeavor and earned his teaching credentials as well. He became
a High School Art Teacher and worked with the Fort Worth school district for many years until home began to tug at him. He
became an Art Educator in Del Rio and worked there until his retirement. Those who knew him well, know that he was incredibly intelligent and had a wicked sense of humor.
David was preceded in death by his father, Nestor Hernandez; and his beloved brother-in-law, Eric Morgan.
He is survived by his mother, Raquel G. Hernandez; sisters: Sandra McNutt (Paul), Raquel Martine-Yanez, and Rebecca Morgan; nieces: Nikole, Itzel, and Emilia; nephews, Woodrow and Weston. He is also survived by his beloved cat of 18 years, Ischi. David is loved and will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Thursday from 6-8 pm in the Trinity Chapel of Devotion.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery.
