Melissa Jan Righetti of San Angelo passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the age of 51.
Melissa is survived by her mother Janice Vondera Steffey of Del Rio, TX, husband of 30 years Richard J. Righetti, daughter Kyla Righetti of Brooklyn, NY, sisters Carol (Wes) Johnson and Marcy Timpone, brothers David Steffey and Maury (Jill) Thomas,sister in law Jane Steffey and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Porter F. Steffey and her brother Keith Steffey.
Melissa was born in Del Rio, Texas on November 7, 1966. She was the youngest of six children in the blended family of Porter and Janice Steffey. Melissa enjoyed an active childhood dedicated to academic study and athletic achievements. She graduated from Del Rio High School in 1984 as a member of the National Honor Society and lettered in golf four years earning individual and team titles at district tournaments. Following high school she entered into banking and insurance industries before following her calling to become a public school teacher. She graduated from Angelo State University in 2000 with Summa Cum Laude honors and as a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society. Melissa taught at Goliad Elementary and Lincoln Junior High before the effects of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) forced her into medical retirement. She spent her remaining years engaged in volunteer efforts supporting the National MS Society and Fisher House. She enjoyed time with family and friends, gardening, and traveling.
Graveside service will take place on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 9:45 am, Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
