Esperanza G. Gonzales

Esperanza G. Gonzales, age 98, entered into rest on Sunday, August 16, 2020 in Del Rio, Texas.

On August 20, 2020, our mother, Esperanza Guajardo Gonzales, passed away peacefully at the age of 98. She was born on October 5, 1921 in Del Rio, TX to Josefa Landin Gonzalez and Atanacio Gonzalez.

Esperanza was happily married to Segundo Guajardo for 28 years until his untimely death in 1967. Later in life, she married Tony Gonzales and they moved to his home in Yuba City, CA where she was quickly accepted into their family. She leaves behind an extended family in Yuba City.

After Tony's death, Esperanza returned to Del Rio to be close to her family.  Because of her desire to help others, she volunteered at the Del Rio Nursing Home and the Val Verde Regional Medical Center's Gift Shop as a "pink lady". Her outgoing personality allowed her to easily help others and to make many friends wherever she went.

Before Segundo's death, they were active members of the San Felipe Lion's Club. Esperanza's favorite hobbies included reading, dancing, and mariachi music. We are certain that she will soon meet up with her dancing partners.

Esperanza and her sisters were ahead of their time in that they were all very independent women. They always encouraged their children to be independent, to do well in school, to obtain the highest education possible, and to fulfill their aspirations. The extended family was an integral part of daily life as everyone helped each other. Many happy moments were spent with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Our mother is preceded in death by both husbands, her only son, Segundo Guajardo Jr., her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Sonia Sanchez (Reynaldo), Gloria Hernandez and Sylvia Guajardo May of Austin, TX., her grandchildren Segundo Guajardo Ill and Sandra Hernandez (JJ) (Austin, TX), her great-grandchildren Sara and Carys Guajardo, her daughter-in-law Carolina Guajardo, and her brother-in-law Johnny Guajardo (Gloria) of Boerne, TX.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Manning for the many years of wonderful medical care and friendship he provided Esperanza. Also, many thanks to the excellent care provided by the staff of La Vida Serena.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
