The Val Verde County Veterans Service Office is reaching out to the community, looking for volunteer drivers to operate van runs going to the San Antonio and Kerrville Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals for area veterans’ medical appointments.
The van transports veterans cost-free to the Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio every Tuesday, and to Kerrville VA Medical Center every Thursday of the month.
The van leaves at 6 a.m. on Tuesday to San Antonio, and at 5 a.m. Thursday to Kerrville.
Ride service users must be at the Val Verde County Courthouse parking lot, behind Hacienda restaurant on Pecan Street, 15 minutes prior to departure.
“The drivers do not have to have a CDL (commercial driver’s license), they just need insurance,” said Val Verde County Veterans Service Officer George Sosa.
New volunteer drivers are required to take a physical examination in San Antonio and have a background check administered.
If you are interested in volunteering, please call the Val Verde County Veterans Service Office at (830) 774 7548.
