Jose Amado died peacefully at his Gilroy home just short of his 89th birthday. Born in Blewett, TX and raised in Del Rio. He moved to San Jose in 1947 with his parents Lazaro and Carmen Hernandez Luna, brother to Esperanza, Flora, MaryLou, Tomasa, Carmen, Peter, Rita and Juanita. He was the family patriarch after his father died in 1950.
Sofia G. Cardenas, age 88, passed away peacefully with her children at her side in Del Rio, Texas on September 30, 2019, one day short of her 89th birthday. She was a lifelong resident of Del Rio, Texas. She began working as an instructional aide for San Felipe Independent School District in 1968 at Lamar Elementary and continued working for SFDR-CISD until her retirement at Del Rio High School in 1996.
Esperanza Robles Paniagua, age 92, entered into rest on Friday, September 20, 2019 in Del Rio, Texas. She was born on May 5, 1927 in Del Rio, Texas to parents Genovevo Robles and Esperanza Cadena. She married Arturo Paniagua, Sr. on December 23, 1945. Esperanza worked at the Val Verde Regional Medical Center for 27 years and helped her husband at their business “La Casita”. Our beautiful loved one joined the angels in heaven. She lived to the glorious age of 92. Her family will have great memories of her beautiful nails, her house dresses and hairnets, her delicious cooking, her outstanding memory, her never ending knowledge of classic movies and her beautiful house plants. She was truly beautiful inside and out. Our family will forever be changed, and she will be missed by many friends and family.
Ann Elizabeth Abbett passed away Thursday, August 29, 2019, in Huntsville, Alabama. Ann was born in Del Rio, Texas on April 15, 1958 to Claire Elizabeth Stanley and James Preston Abbett. She graduated from Del Rio High School, and received her BA in History from Texas A&M University. Ann became certified to teach and earned a MA in History from Sul Ross University.
