Texas weather has lived up to the “hold my beer” meme lately, but that’s not stopping the city from having fun this weekend. What better way to forget about the gloom and doom than by reaching the end of the rainbow with a celebration that is happening this Saturday.
The city of Del Rio and the Del Rio Parks Foundation will be hosting the Second Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. The event will be held on Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight at the Amistad Urban Oasis and the Del Rio Civic Center.
The event will kick off with the Del Rio Community Garden Mini Farmer’s Market at 3 p.m. “Throughout the day we’ll have a great lineup of food vendors, a corn hole tournament, and a jumping castle and mini golf for the kids,” Parks Foundation President Laura Gill said.
The foundation promotes the oasis as the go-to location for outdoor entertainment in Del Rio. Silver Eagle Distributors is sponsoring the event and promises another festive and memorable experience for the community, according to the foundation’s website.
The event will have green beer on tap and bottles for purchase. Coolers are not allowed at the event.
“All money raised through beer sales will go to the Del Rio Parks Foundation projects and Del Rio’s first community dog park,” Gill said. In January the foundation proposed a community dog park in order to make Del Rio a better home for dogs.
Sonic Radio, a 1980s rock band from San Antonio, will be performing in the evening with a second band to be announced soon.
Pre-registration for the corn hole tournament is open online at delrioparksfoundation.com with an entry fee of $30. Registration for the tournament will be available on site at 2 p.m. but the fee will be $40.
Teams must consist of two members and be 21 or older, in addition there will be cash prizes for first, second, and third place. Registered players will get their first green beer free of charge.
Food vendors will be on site as well. Any vendors still interested can secure a spot by contacting Emmett Salinas at email@example.com or (830) 774 8628.
Everyone is welcome to join and bring lawn chairs. “Come join us and listen to music, enjoy the Amistad Urban Oasis, and give the kids a chance to get outside and play,” Gill said.
The festivities are also the highlight of the city of Del Rio’s 2019 Spring Break Staycation schedule. The week-long festivities consist of mural painting, bike tours, and other events for people of all ages.
