A Del Rio man who was allegedly found with cocaine during a traffic stop was arrested and charged with possession, police say.
Jesus Zavala Jr., 40, 1110 Ave. K, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Friday at the 2400 block of Veterans Boulevard and charged with possession of a controlled substance, penalty group one, a state jail felony, according to a Del Rio Police Department report.
Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Hilda Lopez Castillo set Zavala’s bond at $5,000, according to documents on file at the magistrate’s office.
Officer Vicente Hernandez reportedly found .4 grams of cocaine inside Zavala’s shoe after pulling over the suspect, who was driving a black Dodge Ram, for not displaying a rear license plate, said Sr. Officer Dulce Gonzalez.
“The officer made contact with the driver. The driver appeared nervous,” Gonzalez said. “The officer requested for the male to exit the vehicle. He then requested consent to search for drugs.”
Hernandez discovered a clear plastic bag containing a white, powdery substance and a silver-colored spoon inside Zavala’s boot, Gonzalez said. The substance tested positive for cocaine, Gonzalez said.
Police booked Hernandez at the Del Rio police station. He later was sent to the county jail.
