News-Herald columnist Luis Rosas

Luis Alfonzo Rosas, also known as Luis Rosas, in a photo taken in 2013. He was an opinion writer published by the News-Herald for more than 10 years. His opinionated pieces were praised by some and criticized by others. He died Monday in Del Rio, he was 80 years of age.

One of the most opinionated writers in Del Rio, a very blunt critic of the system and one who refused to compromise, will be writing no more. Family members confirmed Thursday the death of Luis Alfonzo Rosas, a long-time Del Rio News-Herald contributor and guest columnist.

Rosas, a native of Ciudad Acuña, moved to Princeville, Illinois as a migrant farm worker and started writing letters to the editor for the Peoria Journal Star in the 1980s. He worked in the farm fields for more than 30 years and was followed to Illinois by his parents, uncles and other relatives.
