Helping people with their most basic needs is the goal of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which as part of the Catholic church has a Christian mission focusing on individuals who are struggling to make ends meet.

There are currently three societies in Del Rio, each one associated with one of the local Catholic churches.

The St. Joseph Catholic Church St. Vincent de Paul Society made a presentation Tuesday before the Rotary Club of Del Rio, featuring their missions and accomplishments.

The society, which closely works with the club, was presented with a check toward their charitable programs.

One of the programs both entities work together in is the U.S. flag program. Six times a year Rotary Club members put out U.S. flags on certain businesses and individuals’ homes who contract this service with the club.

St. Vincent de Paul members are tasked with picking up the flags at the end of the day.
