The Miss Val Verde Pageant will be held tonight, at 6:30 p.m. at the Paul Poag Theater. The pageant will be hosted by former Miss Val Verde Sheanne Geis.
The Mini Me Pageant will be held at the Paul Poag on Friday, at 6:30 p.m.
Miss Val Verde Teen contestants
Serena Sandoval is the 13-year- old daughter of Robert and Ema Sandoval. Some of her accomplishments include winning competitions and getting good grades.
Tiana Perez is the 13-year-old daughter of Dr. Jose and Mrs. Tania Perez. She is in the seventh grade and attends Sacred Heart Catholic School. Perez aspires to become a digital media technology director.
Some of her accomplishments include perfect attendance, All “A” honor roll, Cheer and Dance Grand Champion, Teen Fit honorable achievement, Book Worm Award, Citizenship Award, Classroom Volunteer Award, Accelerated Reader Award, V3 Volleyball Champion, Self-Defense Karate Course Completion, Solo and Ensemble Medalist, Science Fair District Qualifier, and Most Improved Student.
Perez will be escorted by Daniel Peterson. He is the son of Edith and Dan Peterson.
Alisha Marie Davila is the 13-year-old daughter of Erika Morales. She is an entrepreneur and a go getter. She started her own baking business and her baked goods are very popular. She will be escorted by Zane Hughes.
Nicole Arianna Meza is the 13-year-old daughter of Ray and Esme Meza. She is in the 8th grade and attends Sacred Heart Catholic School. Meza aspires to become a dentist. Some of her accomplishments include being selected as Clara for the Nutcracker Ballet. Being a part of Miss Annie’s Dance Plus Competition team for three years. Winning an Art contest at school on “What is Solidarity?” and advancing to compete in district. Placing first in the Food and Nutrition Val Verde 4-H Food Show and advancing to district. Nicole will be escorted by Manuel Alejandro Gonzalez Galan.
Natalia Sanchez is the 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Sanchez. She is in the sixth grade and attends San Felipe Memorial Middle School. Sanchez aspires to become an occupational therapist in the future.
Some of her accomplishments include being an “A” honor student while completing advanced courses. Sanchez has held a leading role in a play that was shown at the Paul Poag Theatre. She was the leading role of Peach Fuzz the Pirate in the play Black Beard and the Pirates. Natalia has done competitive gymnastics and soccer.
Isabella Davis is the 13-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Davis she is in the seventh grade and is homeschooled. Davis aspires to become a veterinarian.
Some of her accomplishments include second place in the 2019 The Next Generation Homeschool Cooperative Science Fair. Davis received formal recognition and was awarded the Agnes Martin Award for her abstract artwork from The Next Generation Homeschool Cooperative.
The cooperative also recognized Davis for her community/volunteer work. Her service hours include assisting with Vacation Bible School; Sacred Heart Saint Vincent de Paul ministry; volunteering at La Vida Serena Nursing Home; highway clean-up; and A Pet’s Wish. She has also volunteered for nonprofit organizations like the Lions Club and helped raise funds for her church Youth Group.
Davis will be escorted by John Paul Galan. He is 13 years old and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Galan.
Miss Val Verde contestants
Thalia Lantgen is the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy and Alejandra Lantgen.
She is in the 10th grade and attends Del Rio High School. She aspires to become a bilingual educator.
Some of her accomplishments include poems and drawings being published, a contract with the model agency Entourage. She will be escorted by Osvaldo Chacon.
Emma Escamilla is the 14-year-old daughter of Cesar and Debbie Escamilla. Emma is in the ninth grade and attends Del Rio Freshman School. Emma aspires to become a litigation attorney in the future.
Some of Escamilla’s accomplishments include being a top medal winner at the district and regional science fairs and consistently placing at all UIL competitions.
Escamilla will be escorted by Willson Smith, son of Kenneth and Juanita Smith.
Arianna Rodriguez is the 18-year-old daughter of Mr. Juan and Mrs. Belinda Rodriguez. She is in the 12th grade and attends Early College High School. Rodriguez aspires to graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio with an interdisciplinary studies degree to pursue her career of becoming an elementary teacher.
Some of her accomplishments include being a member of the National Technical Honor Society, ranking in the top 20 of her class and being a track and field regional qualifier.
Rodriguez will be escorted by Moises Escajeda. Escajeda is the 17-year-old son of Mr. Cesar and Mrs. Claudia Escajeda.
Alaia Garcia is the 14-year-old daughter of Vanessa Garcia and Brian Ramon. She attends Del Rio Freshman. One of her biggest accomplishments is joining The Miss Val Verde Pageant and breaking through shyness.
Elaine Oyama is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David and Veronica Oyama. She is in the 12th grade and attends Del Rio Early College High School. Elaine aspires to become a pediatric psychiatrist.
Oyama’s accomplishments include founding her advocacy project, The Oyama Trust, becoming a two-time All-State Mariachi champion, being accepted into the University of Texas at San Antonio to major in medical humanities with a concentration in pre-medical sciences, and earning the UTSA Distinguished Presidential Scholarship.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Peer Assisted Leadership, and Youth Leadership Del Rio.
Lesly Jasmin Muñiz is the 16-year-old daughter of Judith Zamora and David Muñiz.
She’s involved in volleyball, band, mariachi, cheerleading, she is in two drill teams – Blue Tops and Warriors – and was in a PomSquad.
Mariella Rangel is the 16-year-old daughter of the late Mr. Alejandro and Mrs. Elena Rangel. She is a junior at Early College High School. Rangel is the co-captain of the food committee, she has been a part of FCCLA for two years and is also a part of Student Council where she helps out by decorating or making important decisions about the school.
She also helps out in the community as well. Rangel works part time to be able to help her family out. Her future goal is to become a licensed psychologist so she is able to understand the human mind and to help people by providing them safety, and mental health.
Audrey Vela is the 15-year-old daughter of Mrs. Maritza Velasquez she is in the 10th grade and attends Del Rio High School. Vela aspires to become a pediatrician.
Some of her accomplishments include being a Queen City Belle for two consecutive years and currently holding the title as a Sophomore Lieutenant, continuing of being an FCCLA Ram Chapter member and STAR competitor at the regional level. Vela will be escorted by Alan Aldrete.
Gia Marie Torrez is the 16-year-old daughter of Gustavo Torrez and Jessica Garcia. She’s in the 10th grade and attends Del Rio High School. Torrez aspires to be a well-known actress or a psychiatrist. Some of her accomplishment include: member of the DRMS dance team and also an officer in the Del Rio freshman Sapphire Dance Team, she is currently a member of the Del Rio High Mariachi Nuevo Amanecer.
