9/11 REMEMBERANCE

All pedestrian and vehicular traffic at the Del Rio International Bridge will be temporarily halted today from 7:10 a.m. to 7:50 a.m. due to the ceremony to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. CBP encourages the traveling public to make any and all necessary arrangements to cross prior to 7 a.m. if they are planning to utilize the Del Rio International Bridge that morning.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday at noon at the Ramada’s Sunblossom Room. Topic will be Understanding the TRE, a conversation with the San Felipe Del Rio CISD.

RIBBON CUTTING

The public is invited to the ribbon cutting for L&M Bar-B-Q Thursday at 5 p.m. at 909 Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd. This event will be hosted by the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

The Boys and GirlsClub of Del Rio will hold registration for its volleyball league until Sept. 14, from 2 to 6 p.m. each day, at the Boys and Girls Club. The league is for girls ages 7 to 12. Fee is $50, payable by chasier’s check or money order only. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required. Coaches are also needed for the league. Honoring Constitution Week – Sept. 17-22 – the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution are encouraging churches, schools, fire houses, city governments and individuals to ring bells across America on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. in all time zones, in order to recognize and remember the Constitution and Citizenship.

last chance forever

Last Chance Forever, presented by The Bird of Prey Conservancy, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Dr. Alfredo Gutierrez Jr. Amphitheater, 1105 W. De La Rosa St. This is a free program. It is an educational opportunity to learn more about birds of prey and the role they play in the environment.

FARMERS MARKET

Tractor Supply in Del Rio is looking for local vendors to participate in its fall Farmers Market event Saturday, Sept. 22. Vendors with expertise in everything from homegrown produce, fresh eggs and baked goods to crafts, candles and furniture are encouraged to sign up by through TSCEventPartners.com or by contacting the Del Rio​-area store. Vendor registration closes Wednesday, Sept. 19.

CREEK CLEAN UP

The Casa de la Cultura and Texas Parks and Wildlife- Devils River are teaming up once again for our Creek Clean up. Meet up at the Casa de la Cultura and we can split up in groups from there. Make sure to bring gloves, bags or any tools that can help you grab trash better. Our parks seem clean but our goal is to go into the creek and clear up the bags, cans, plastic, shopping carts and any random items that should not be in our water. Meet up time is 9 a.m.

FREE SPANISH LANGUAGE CLASS

Val Verde Regional Medical Center is offering a FREE, Spanish language Diabetes Self-Management Course. There are 6 consecutive evenings of class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at VVRMC, 801 N. Bedell, in the Education Conference Room at the old main entrance. Classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and end on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Business Showcase. This year’s theme is “It’s a Jungle Out There!” The event will be held at the Del Rio Civic Center Thursday, Sept. 27, from noon to 5 p.m., and is free to the public. The Business After Hours Mixer will follow from 5 to 7 p.m.

MARIPOSA BRUNCH

Val Verde Regional Medical Center will host the inaugural Mariposa Brunch, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Inn Ballroom. Cost is $35 per person and includes brunch and one Mimosa, though others will be available for purchase. This event benefits the HOPE Cancer Resource Room.
