VFW Post 8552 will host a meeting Aug. 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at 1307 E. 1st St. The meeting will deal with veterans outreach and concerns veterans may have.

The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Mixer will be hosted by United Medical Centers, 913 S. Main St., from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug 30.

PARENTS MEETING

Del Rio High School will be hosting two very important meetings on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. and on Friday, Aug. 31, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Topic of meeting will be on the importance of students daily Attendance. Presenters will be Dr. Alanna Talamantez-Elizondo – DRHS Assistant Principal in charge of attendance, Lourdes Garcia – DRHS Attendance Clerk and Terry Longoria – DRHS Attendance Secretary.

MOVIE AT THE MUSEUM

The final Movie at the Museum event will be held Friday, Aug. 31, at the Whitehead Memorial Museum, 1308 S. Main St., from 8:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. The final movie will be “The Emoji Movie.” Free admission, but a concession stand will be available. Bring your own seats.

PHOTO EXHIBIT

The Consulate of Mexico in Del Rio, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hernán LLC and the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry, invite the community to the opening ceremony of the “México de mis Sabores” photo exhibit, which will be held Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at the Transportation Department’s lobby (100 W Odgen St).

TAKE A KID FISHING

Those youth who have pre-registered for this year’s Take-A-Kid Fishing event need to come by Gattis Pizza, beside Motel 6, between noon and 8 p.m. Aug. 31, and pick up a button to be eligible for door prizes. There will be no sign-ups on the day of the event, Sept. 1.

Val Verde Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be hosting an educational program by Dr. Arnulfo Ojeda for family members and care-takers of elders suffering with Dementia. Last Chance Forever, presented by The Bird of Prey Conservancy, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Dr. Alfredo Gutierrez Jr. Amphitheater, 1105 W. De La Rosa St. This is a free program. It is an educational opportunity to learn more about birds of prey and the role they play in the environment.

Tractor Supply in Del Rio is looking for local vendors to participate in its fall Farmers Market event Saturday, Sept. 22. FREE SPANISH LANGUAGE CLASS

Val Verde Regional Medical Center is offering a FREE, Spanish language Diabetes Self-Management Course. There are 6 consecutive evenings of class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at VVRMC, 801 N. Bedell, in the Education Conference Room at the old main entrance. Classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and end on Tuesday, Oct. 30. This course provides everything you need to help people get control of your health. Everyone is welcome. You must pre-register by calling 830-778-3652.

The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Business Showcase. This year’s theme is “It’s a Jungle Out There!” The event will be held at the Del Rio Civic Center Thursday, Sept. 27, from noon to 5 p.m., and is free to the public. The Business After Hours Mixer will follow from 5 to 7 p.m.

VETERANS APPRECIATION

There will be an event to recognize veterans and their family members. An appreciative luncheon, with door prizes, will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the VFW, 1307 E. 1st St. This event is sponsored by the Lions Clubs and all veterans organizations.
